Polish Heart, Local Soul
- Polish Heart, Local Soul is a community wellbeing project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. The project was created in response to conversations with local Polish families in Peterborough who told us they wanted more opportunities to connect, support one another, and celebrate their culture in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Through weekly activities, we bring together children, parents, older adults and community members of all ages. Our aim is simple: to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, strengthen community connections and create spaces where people feel they belong.
The project combines early years music education, creative activities, wellbeing sessions and informal social opportunities. At the heart of the programme is our community café, where conversations begin over coffee and homemade cake, friendships are formed, and support is shared.
What We Do
Bobonutki – Mum & Baby Music Sessions
Weekly Polish-language music sessions for babies, toddlers and their carers. Through songs, movement, rhythm and play, children are introduced to music while families build connections and support early bilingual language development.
Melodynki – Early Years Music Sessions
Fun and engaging music classes for young children, helping them develop confidence, creativity, coordination and a love of music in a supportive community environment.
Community Café
A welcoming space where people can meet, chat, take part in creative activities and access wellbeing support. The café hosts arts and crafts, singing sessions, conversation groups, coaching, yoga and breathwork activities.
Our Impact So Far
Since January 2026, together with our community, we have:
☕ Served over 260 cups of coffee
🎶 Delivered 52 music sessions
👶 Supported 56 children registered across our early years programmes
🍰 Shared 26 homemade cakes
🎤 Delivered 6 community singing sessions
🌿 Delivered 4 coaching sessions
🧘 Delivered 6 yoga and breathwork sessions
🎨 Completed more than 10 creative projects
❤️ Welcomed over 2,000 visitors through our community café during The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) event
Looking Ahead
Polish Heart, Local Soul continues to grow every week. As the project develops, we will continue listening to our community, creating new opportunities for connection and wellbeing, and building stronger relationships across generations.
Together, we are creating a community where people feel welcomed, supported and empowered to thrive.
